Peter Twist's resignation
from Vancouver Canucks makes a bold statement to the belief in Twist
Conditioning Inc, which now has a product division, camp division,
training facility, education division, certifications, and group fitness
too, as well as consulting new facilities. It ensures Twist is more
focussed directing staff to help navigate TCI through an explosive
growth phase. Twist creates the new training methodologies others will
learn and implement in the sport, fitness and rehab environments, an
educational mandate yet one which a multi faceted business model follows
up.
"This was a decision I made 3 years ago, yet remained committed to the
team to see them through to a certain level. Once we determined the
players were all developed and all on board and positioned for success,
the shift would happen. After an excellent training camp, and the
players reporting in world class condition and fully committed, it was
an appropriate time. I am pleased I was able to contribute to their
development, improve performance and prevent injuries, and I am most
excited the players are set up to succeed for years. This is a team that
will just keep getting better" explained Twist.
“Peter has been with the Canucks for over 10 years and his knowledge of
exercise physiology is unmatched”, said Brian Burke, Canucks' President
and GM. “Peter has raised the NHL bar for strength and conditioning. We
wish him and his family all the best with Twist Conditioning Inc. in the
future.” said Burke.
Twist explains: "It offers a great balance, giving me control of my
schedule and valuable time I can offer my kids, and net more real life
time with my wife, friends and family. I am fortunate to enjoy that and
still remain affiliated with the team. The positive impact on my kids
and personal life, as well as business, is already notable. Plus I
forgot what weekends were - I am actually very good at them! We kick
started the new schedule with ski trips to Whistler and Big White, plus
some snowshoeing and hiking. We love being in the mountains and sharing
that experience with our athletes too." says Twist. TCI will continue to
train elite and pro athletes. See
www.sportconditioning.ca/camps for details.
"I am a true believer in our training methods and passionate about
spreading the word so that youth, elderly and general fitness and
recreational sport enthusiasts can all reap the benefits, rather than
just 20 privileged athletes. We have an opportunity to radically change
the way people work out and make a positive impact on their lives. To
fulfill this, we educate coaches and trainers to implement my training
style with their athletes and clients. The gratitude and enthusiasm
received from educational participants, and hearing stories about how
their athletes benefited, is a huge reward. Everything TCI is involved
in we truly love, and enjoy the people we meet and deal with along the
way. It is a fantastic journey"! said Twist.
"I am very appreciative of the opportunities the Canucks presented me.
It is exciting for the entire city and I would love to see the players
and coaches and management rewarded for their 10,000 hours pf
preparation! They all deserve to enjoy a Cup"! enthused Twist. "The NHL
is a great experience and rare opportunity, but soaking up all of life
is what I am best at. It is time for that, time for family, and time to
take TCI to another level. I welcome you to join us and enjoy the ride!"
FORMAL TEAM MEDIA RELEASE:
WHAT THE PLAYERS SAY:
"Since he started having kids, his business interests and being a coach
here made a lot of demands on his time," said winger Trent Klatt, a
father of five. "He needed more time with his family and I guess it was
easier for him to do that with Twist Conditioning. He has a lot of
insights. He's a guy who's able to help us with our concerns as far as
conditioning and being ready to play. It'll be a loss to have Twister
gone, but he's passed a lot on to the rest of us." explained Klatt.
Forward Brendan Morrison adds, "He's put a lot into this team and got a
lot of guys on the right track conditioning-wise. But he has a business
and I think, being his own boss, he'll be able to spend a lot of time
with his family."
Markus Naslund speaks to the impact on players: "Conditioning Coach
Peter Twist has worked with me in Vancouver and in Sweden. He helped me
back from a broken leg in a very short period of time, returning with a
new performance level in games and to also win the teams' Top
Conditioned Award! Twist's knowledge is well respected by all the
players on the Canucks. He knows how to create off-ice workouts to
achieve great on-ice success" said Naslund.
Trevor Linden: "Each year Twist creates new innovative exercises that
produce even better on-ice performance. Importantly, the coaching style
and training environment is extremely positive and motivating" said
Linden.
