PETER TWIST MOVES ON TO SUCCESSFUL
BUSINESS VENTURE
…Canucks to hire new Strength and
Conditioning Coach to begin work in off-season
Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager
Brian Burke announced today that Canucks Strength and Conditioning Coach
Peter Twist is moving on to pursue his successful business venture,
Twist Conditioning Inc.
“Peter has been with the Canucks for over 10 years and his knowledge of
exercise physiology is unmatched”, said Brian Burke. “Peter has raised
the NHL bar for strength and conditioning, but time commitments with his
own successful business, Twist Conditioning Inc. and his young family,
won’t provide Peter him the individual time he needs with our players in
the coming years.”
Burke went on to say, “It was felt by both sides that this was the best
time for Peter to focus his efforts on his personal initiatives, while
it gives us the time we require to hire a new conditioning coach before
the off-season, when intense training is vital. Peter has been a
pleasure to work with and we wish him and his family all the best with
Twist Conditioning Inc. in the future.”
The Vancouver Canucks coaching staff will implement a specialized
player-training program, designed by Twist, for the remainder of the
season. Twist will be available to the team on a consulting basis during
this period while the organization will undergo an extensive search for
a conditioning coach to succeed Twist in the off-season.
"I'd like to thank the Vancouver Canucks for giving me the opportunity
to live out a dream and to work in the NHL," said Peter Twist. "I have
enjoyed my time with the Canucks very much, and having the chance to
make an impact on the conditioning knowledge of elite hockey players was
very rewarding. Now Brian Burke and Marc Crawford have given me the
opportunity to pursue my next challenges in life and I feel very
fortunate for that."
“I was inclined towards this decision three years ago, with the birth of
my daughters and expanding of my business. My kids are the primary
reason – the growing business provides the option,” said Twist. “But I
was not comfortable making a shift until I felt all of the players were
100% developed and positioned for success. Today I have so much respect
for the players’ tremendous work ethic, intensity, commitment and
abilities. I believe they are on their way to great success!”
Twist Conditioning Inc. specializes in athlete development and
performance enhancement, and is recognized for its role in researching
and creating new training methods. TCI has four main divisions:
sport-fitness product distribution; conditioning camps in 3 countries; a
training facility on the north shore, and an education division which
develops certifications, books, videos and lectures.
