Here are four clinics and conferences not to be missed.  Chances are, you will see me in one of these clinics, so be sure to say hello and introduce yourself when you see me.

International Festival of Athletics Coaching

Where: Glasgow, Scotland

When: Oct 26-28, 2012

Featuring Toni Minichiello, Stephen Maguire, Sharon Hannan, Frank Dick, Stanley Madiri, Frans Bosch… just to name a few.

The program for 2012, which is also the host city for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, seeks to emphasize the practical art of coaching, while synthesizing the science of coaching.  The clinic aims to equip coaches for getting their decision making right in leading the process of elevating athlete performance.

Canadian National Coach Mentoring Program 2012: Sprints

Athletics Canada and The Canadian Athletics Coaching Centre (CACC) are now accepting applications for the 2012 National Coach Mentoring Program. This program aims to assist six coaches progress their learning and effectiveness in the sprints, particularly the 100 meter and 200 meter events, and the 100/110 meter Hurdle events.

Coaches from across Canada will be selected through an application process to participate in this four-month program; 2 coaches will be selected from Eastern Canada, 2 from Western Canada, and 2 selected at large. The program will begin December 14, 2012 and run through April 2013. Coaches should be expected to commit 3-4 hours a week of study and participation to this program.

  • Kick-off weekend workshop with Vince Anderson, Edmonton, December 14-16, 2012
  • Practical weekend and competition within the United States, April 4-7, 2013

2013 USATF/IAAF Academy for Throws and Jumps

When: December 30, 2012 – January 5, 2013
Where: USOC Olympic Training Center – Chula Vista, California

(NOTE: Last year was the Sprints course.  Anyone interested in learning more can contact Eric Dixon, who wrote this guest article)

USATF/IAAF Academy diploma and Level 3 certification upon completion of all components of the course. The IAAF Academy Diploma for Elite Coach is the highest recognized achievement awarded through the IAAF Coaches Education and Certification System (CECS). It is recognized around the world and indicates that a coach is not only highly experienced but has the knowledge to coach or instruct at the highest international levels of the track & field profession. 

In addition to the IAAF Diploma, all USATF Level 2 coaches who complete the course will receive a Level 3 certification in their selected event.  A candidate will select either throws or jumps to enroll for the week long course.

2012 European Sprints & Hurdles Conference

The 2012 Second European Sprints and Hurdles Conference, hosted by UKA and England Athletics, will take place on Saturday and Sunday the 10-11 November at the University of Warwick, England, UK.

This event, which forms part of European Athletics Coaching Summit Series, follows on from 2010’s highly successful inaugural conference and will continue the exceptional coach development opportunities on offer in the UK with an impressive roll call of world class speakers.

Speakers include Tom Tellez, Loren Seagrave, and Pierre-Jean Vazel.
